Fabric scraps selected for the block |
This block requirements were blue for the sky, a purple tone on tone that read like a solid for the bird wings, a contrasting tone on tone fabric for the bird body and black for the legs and beak. Did I exactly follow the fabric directions? No. . .but, what I chose will work. It will be a great quilt!

Finished block |
One member, Tomme F. made a paper pieced pattern. The paper pieced pattern is much easier to understand and the results will be more consistent. The paper pieced pattern is one that I might want to make more birds. . .someday! Goal number ten on my June list was to document making this block.

I have seen bird blocks similar to that and love them! Will your president get a whole quilt of birds made by guild members? That sounds so fun!
I think last year I saw tons of bird blocks/quilts being made, so cute! Your fabrics read solid to me:)
I made a batch of those blocks for the Block Lotto. Lynne (Patchery Menagerie) and Julie (Me and My Quilts) make them often, too. Lynne has a whole tutorial on them.
Great theme for the president quilt! I love your bird, it looks very pretty, bright and joyful. Is it for an end of guild's president mandate? It's going to be fun to see all the different birds!
Thank you for sharing this fun project and your pretty block, and linking up.
I Love your bird. If everybody follow exactly the requirements, it's less fun ;-)
Those birds are addictive. You cannot just make one or even five. You will be playing with fun fabric combinations. Ask me how I know :-D Looking forward to the multiplying flock.
oh too cute!!!
